Family Faith Formation
We are introducing a new form of religious education that seeks to teach the faith to families as a whole. Family Faith Formation is our new program and uses A Family of Faith series from the Sophia Institute Press. By clicking HERE you can find more information. Children and families can still register and participate in Family Faith Formation at any time.
Our new program recognizes that parents are the primary educators of their children in the truths of the faith. Pope St. John Paul II in his encyclical Familiaris Consortio (The Family in the Modern World) explains:
As the Second Vatican Council recalled, “since parents have conferred life on their children, they have a most solemn obligation to educate their offspring. Hence, parents must be acknowledged as the first and foremost educators of their children. Their role as educators is so decisive that scarcely anything can compensate for their failure in it. For it devolves on parents to create a family atmosphere so animated with love and reverence for God and others that a well-rounded personal and social development will be fostered among the children. Hence, the family is the first school of those social virtues which every society needs.” (Familiaris Consortio, #36)
Our program has families come together to receive catechesis once each month. While children in grades k-6 are taught by catechists, Fr. Ward will be meeting with parents to help prepare them to teach home lessons to their children.
